A mix of joy and poignant emotion marked the send-off ceremony for graduates of the Postgraduate Program at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), for Period IV of the 2025/2026 Academic Year, held on Wednesday (22/7).. Following the UGM Postgraduate Graduation ceremony at Grha Sabha Pramana, FTP UGM sent off 15 graduates, comprising eight graduates from the Master’s Study Program in Food Science and Technology, six graduates from the Master’s Study Program in Agricultural Engineering, and one graduate from the Doctoral Study Program in Food Science. Amid the graduates’ joy, the ceremony was also marked by a sense of loss following the passing of Theresia Cici Marisi Sinaga, S.T.P., M.Sc., a graduate of the Master’s Study Program in Agricultural Engineering who was unable to attend the graduation ceremony. The presence of her family, attending on her behalf, was a deeply moving moment for all present.

Dean of FTP UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Eni Harmayani, M.Sc., congratulated all graduates on the successful completion of their studies. According to her, the academic degrees earned were the result of a long journey filled with struggle, dedication, and support from family, lecturers, and the academic community.

“For all graduates, this marks the end of a long academic journey filled with hard work, perseverance, and sacrifice. Behind the diploma you received this morning lies a story of struggle, prayer, family support, and guidance from your lecturers that brought you to this point,” said Prof. Eni.

On this occasion, Prof. Eni also invited all those present to remember one of the graduates who had passed away. She extended her condolences to the family of the late Theresia Cici Marisi Sinaga, who attended the send-off ceremony on her behalf.

“Yet our joy today is also tinged with sorrow. On behalf of the leadership of FTP UGM, I extend my deepest condolences to the family she leaves behind. May she be granted the best place beside Allah SWT, may all her shortcomings be forgiven and her good deeds accepted, and may her family be granted patience, strength, and comfort,” she said.

Prof. Eni further urged the graduates to always use the knowledge they had gained to benefit society. She noted that future challenges call for graduates who possess not only academic competence, but also integrity, empathy, the ability to collaborate, and the spirit to deliver solutions to the nation’s various challenges.

“To the graduates, congratulations on your achievement. The degree you now hold is not the end of the learning process, but a greater responsibility. The world needs individuals who excel not only academically, but who also carry integrity, empathy, the ability to collaborate, and the courage to deliver solutions to the nation’s challenges,” she said.

For this period, Yuniar Wika Perdana Putri, S.T.P., M.Sc., from the Master’s Study Program in Food Science and Technology achieved the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) at the master’s level, with a perfect score of 4.00, completing her studies in 1 year, 10 months, and 6 days. Meanwhile, Dr. Dea Tio Mareta, S.T.P., M.Sc., from the Doctoral Study Program in Food Science achieved the highest GPA at the doctoral level, also 4.00, completed over 4 years, 10 months, and 2 days. The title of fastest-graduating student went to Zahva Shivany Imanul Kamil, S.T.P., M.Sc., from the Master’s Study Program in Food Science and Technology, who completed her studies in 1 year, 4 months, and 17 days, while the title of youngest graduate went to Rifa Fahmida, S.T.P., M.Sc., from the Master’s Study Program in Agricultural Engineering, who graduated at the age of 22 years, 8 months, and 27 days.

Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Dr. Dea Tio Mareta, S.T.P., M.Sc., expressed gratitude for the achievement and appreciation to the lecturers, education staff, family, and fellow students who had been part of her academic journey at FTP UGM. She expressed hope that the spirit of learning and collaboration built during her studies would continue to guide her career and service to society.

The send-off ceremony marks the emergence of a new generation of FTP UGM graduates ready to make their mark across various professional fields. Equipped with knowledge, integrity, and a spirit of innovation, the graduates are expected to make a real contribution in addressing challenges in food, agriculture, and technology in support of sustainable development.

The Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), received an academic visit from students of the Agrotechnology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Tadulako, on Monday, July 20, 2026, in Meeting Room 384, FTP UGM. The field trip aimed to give students insight into the faculty’s profile, its learning system, and the laboratory facilities available at FTP UGM to support education and research in agricultural technology.

The group of students from Universitas Tadulako was received by the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, FTP UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yudi Pranoto, S.T.P., M.P., who gave a presentation on the profile of FTP UGM. During the session, Prof. Yudi introduced the faculty’s three departments, its educational programs, academic activities, and the various opportunities available for student development throughout their studies at the faculty.

Following the presentation, participants continued the visit with a tour of the Process Engineering Laboratory. During the visit, Wahyu Prasetya, S.T.P., Technician of the Process Engineering Laboratory, introduced the laboratory’s function and explained the various equipment used in practicum sessions and research. Participants also gained an overview of how process technology is applied in agricultural product processing.

The field trip then continued to the Smart Agriculture Research Center (SmartAgri). During this session, students from Universitas Tadulako were introduced to various smart agricultural technology innovations developed by FTP UGM. The laboratory tour was accompanied by Zalfa Nabila Khoirunisa, S.T.P., who explained the various laboratory facilities to the participants.

The entire series of activities was hosted by Diva Humaira Nibras, S.I.P., as master of ceremonies. Through this visit, students from Universitas Tadulako are expected to gain an overview of the education system, laboratory facilities, and research development at FTP UGM, which can serve as a reference to support the learning process at their home university.

The Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), strengthened its international academic network through the signing of a Joint Supervision Agreement with the Institute of Biology, Faculty of Science, Leiden University, on Monday, (20/7) at FTP UGM. The agreement, signed by the Dean of FTP UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Eni Harmayani, M.Sc., together with Prof. Dr. Peter J. Punt, Professor at the Institute of Biology, Faculty of Science, Leiden University, marks a step toward expanding collaboration in education, research, and human resource development.

This collaboration provides the basis for joint supervision of master’s students in the Master’s Study Program in Food Science and Technology, and also opens opportunities for cooperation in other areas, such as collaborative research, scientific publications, and knowledge exchange between the two institutions. The signing of the Joint Supervision Agreement began with remarks from the Dean of FTP UGM, who emphasized the importance of international collaboration in supporting the implementation of the university’s tridharma, the three pillars of higher education: teaching, research, and community service. This collaboration is expected to be the starting point for the development of various joint programs, ranging from student supervision and collaborative research to the strengthening of academic networks between FTP UGM and Leiden University.

The series of activities continued with introductory sessions from the Department of Food Technology and Agricultural Products, the Department of Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering, and the Department of Agricultural Industrial Technology. Each department presented its profile, areas of expertise, research focus, and potential collaboration opportunities that could be developed with Leiden University. The discussion also opened up opportunities for cross-disciplinary research synergy, in line with each institution’s respective strengths. The Head of the Department of Food Technology and Agricultural Products, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tyas Utami, M.Sc., welcomed the joint supervision arrangement now running within the Master’s Study Program in Food Science and Technology, and also spoke of broader collaboration opportunities, particularly for undergraduate students: “I sincerely hope that this collaboration can expand to include our undergraduate students, offering opportunities for research stays for their final projects, student exchanges, fast-track programs, and other initiatives currently running with our partners.” The Secretary of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering, FTP UGM, Chandra Setyawan, S.T.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., introduced the laboratories within the department and welcomed collaboration opportunities with other institutions, both at Leiden University and within the department’s existing networks relevant to its field. The Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Industrial Technology, FTP UGM, Dr. Anggoro Cahyo Sukartiko, S.T.P., M.P., expressed hope that the collaboration would continue to grow and produce more academic partnerships in the future: “I hope this collaboration will continue to grow, particularly in the field of agricultural technology,” he said.

Through this collaboration, FTP UGM continues to strengthen its commitment to improving the quality of education and research through international collaboration. This activity also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through the strengthening of higher education and international academic supervision; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, through the development of collaborative research; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through the strengthening of strategic partnerships between FTP UGM and Leiden University.

The Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a Guest Lecture and Coffee Chat with Students titled the Empower Youth for Food (EY4F) Campaign on Thursday (9/7) at FTP UGM campus, featured four master’s students from Erasmus University Rotterdam who are part of an International Research Project: Maaike van Rijs, Floor Vriesman, Daan Houweling, and Leon Biesbroeck. Through interactive discussion, the event served as a platform for exchanging ideas on the role of young people in building a more sustainable food system, while also strengthening international academic collaboration. 

Carrying the theme Empower Youth for Food, the event encouraged students to examine the various challenges facing the global food system from a broader perspective. The discussion covered the importance of innovation, entrepreneurship, and cross-disciplinary collaboration as ways to develop solutions to various issues in the agriculture and food sector. The presence of students from Erasmus University Rotterdam also gave participants the opportunity to learn about experiences, approaches, and practices developing at the international level.

The coffee chat session took place in a warm and interactive atmosphere. FTP UGM students had the opportunity to engage directly in dialogue on a range of issues, from innovation in the food system and entrepreneurship development opportunities to the importance of young people’s involvement in supporting the transformation towards a sustainable food system. The interaction also served as a space to expand academic networks and build cross-cultural understanding among participants.

Through this event, FTP UGM continues to strengthen it’s commitment to fostering a globally oriented learning environment. Collaboration with international students is expected not only to enrich students’ academic perspectives, but also to open up opportunities for cooperation in education, research, and community service that can create real impact for the development of the agriculture and food sectors.

This morning, August 10th 2024, at 08.00 Western Indonesia Time (GMT+7), marked the 12th day (last day) of the Summer Course (SC) 2024 held by the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada.

At 08.00 the participants should submit their final presentation worked in a group. There are 6 on-site groups and 9 online groups. The presentation session was held in 3 classes namely 1.02, 1.03, 1.04. Each class consists of 2 on-site groups and 3 online groups as well as 2 reviewers. The on-site presentation was about a field trip and the online presentation was about a group project. The presentation time for each group was around 15 minutes (10 minute presentation, 5 minute feedback from reviewer) It started at 10.00 until 12.00 after coffee break.   

The next agenda was lunch break until 13.00. After that, the participants prepared themselves for the closing ceremony and country performance. The first speech was from The Chairman of the 6th summer course to address the closing remark. Please welcome Dr. Agung Putra. Followed by the next was Dr. Wiratni, the Secretary of the Directorate of Partnerships and Global Relations UGM. And the last speech was from The Dean of The Faculty of Agricultural Technology , UGM Prof. Eni Harmayani to give a closing speech and to officially close the 6th Summer Course

An award was given to Muna from Thailand and Arun from Indonesia as the best participants of Summer Course FAT UGM 2024. Then, there were performances from each country. Thailand presented dancing, Philippines presented singing and dancing, Pakistan presented storytelling about culture, Bangladesh presented poem reading, Madagascar presented couple dancing and singing, Egypt and Yemen presented cultural video and singing lastly Indonesia presented dancing “poco-poco”. After all the participants performed, The best performance went to Madagascar, The Philippines, and Thailand. The session was closed by photo session
