Faculty of Agricultural Technology UGM (FTP UGM) has a laboratory that is used for research in the framework of science development and used for the means of improving the motor skills (psychomotor) of students during the education. A total of 16 laboratories and one incubator unit are used to equip students in various ways to face the world of work (such as interviewing techniques, making cover letter, personality, psychotest, etc.).
The laboratories in FTP UGM are:
- Laboratory of Chemical, Biochemistry of Food and Agricultural Products. Developing sciences related to chemical aspects such as post mortem analysis, physiology and postharvest technology, food additives, chemicals and applied food biochemistry, as well as testing of the quality of food and other agricultural products from the comic aspect.
- Biotechnology Laboratory. Developing sciences related to microbiological-biological aspects such as microbiological analysis of agricultural products, fermentation, microbial enzymes, microbial isolation and identification, industrial microbiology, food microbiology and processing, including the handling of agricultural waste and genetic engineering.
- Food and Nutrition Laboratory. Developing sciences related to nutritional aspects, such as in vitro nutrition, bioassay, nutritional evaluation of food, community nutrition, experimental nutrition, and others. The laboratory is equipped with space for sensory testing as a means for organoleptic testing.
- Process Engineering Laboratory. Developing sciences related to physical aspects, such as analysis of physical properties, water activities, engineering kinetics, design of agricultural processing plants, design tools processing, development of food products and agricultural products, and others. The laboratory is equipped with a “pilot plan” as a means to develop technology for processing and handling various food commodities and agricultural products, such as oil refining unit, soybean processing unit, fumigation unit, fruit juice processing unit, essential oil distillation unit, and so forth.
- Waste Treatment Laboratory. Developing techniques for processing and utilizing food waste and agricultural products through the application of microbiological, chemical, and process engineering.
- Food Engineering and Postharvest Laboratory. Scientific areas that examine the application of principles and concepts of engineering science in the handling, processing, and distribution of products, agriculture in relation to the conservation and conversion of agricultural products. Includes science in the design of postharvest equipment and food processing, development, operation, and processing of agricultural products.
- Laboratory of Environmental Engineering and Agricultural Building. Formal Coverage: Development of science and technology in the aspect of technical analysis of the condition of the building environment as well as the business of environmental control of agricultural buildings to be in accordance with the demands of agricultural product requirements cultivated. Material Coverage: building materials, environmental control equipment, and agricultural products. The main practicum and research equipment are: pressure test equipment, Vicat tool, saturated surface dray, oven, silo model, pressure transducer, proving ring, analaog digital converter, evaporative cooler, oxygen meter, Ph meter, NOx and SOx meter, Thermohygrometer, growth chamber, water sampler, and Hot Wire Anemometer.
- Agricultural Machine Energy Laboratory. Formal Coverage: design of machine elements, design of agricultural machinery, ergonomics, energy conversion, mechanical technology, agricultural tools & machinery, mechatronics. Material range: energy and machinery for biomass production & process. Laboratory facilities: machine testing units, manufacturing units, design units, energy conversion units, electrical units, electronics, and mechatronics.
- Laboratory of Land and Water Resources Engineering. Formal Coverage: the development of science and technology in soil and water engineering relation to agricultural techniques. Material coverage: soil, water and agricultural techniques. Key Equipment: recorder, hygrothemograph, ombrometer recorder, anemometer cup, A-pan evaporimeter, digital planimeter, theodolite, BTM, measuring beacon, compass, abney level, GIS, AWRL, current meter, water pass, analytical scales, oven, parmeameter, casagrande, tensiometer, soil sampler, water pump, flow meter, and neutron probe.
- Biological Physics Laboratory. Formal Coverage: interdisciplinary scholarship applying techniques from physics and knowledge of biological structures and their functions and systems. Material Coverage: biomass in relation to the field of physics and biology. Main Equipment: Morphometry, power and tension measurements on plants and animals related to physical stimulation of heat, force, sound / sound, light and electric charge, phenomenon of water movement, gas and nutrients through the physiological activity of plants and animals.
- Laboratory of Quality and Standardization Analysis. Formal Coverage: Understanding and mastery of quality concepts and related testing methods, understanding and mastery of seven tools and eight steps in conducting quality control at all stages in industrial systems, an understanding of the quality management system applicable at national and international scale. Material Coverage: Agricultural products and products.
- Industrial Systems Management Laboratory. Formal Coverage: Development and application of various managerial techniques such as scientific management, business organization, quantitative management and others. Material Coverage: The agricultural industry, which includes the animal, vegetable and microbial products processing industries.
- Laboratory of Production System. Development of technology and technology for more efficient and efficient integration of labor-production resources, agricultural products, capital and energy to produce value-added output.
- Industrial Systems Analysis and Simulation Laboratory. Formal Coverage: applying the rules of analysis and design, modeling and simulation study system in an industrial application in the field of agriculture based on computer technology both hardware and software in the achievement of optimization functions. Material Coverage: Analysis and simulation of agricultural industry system, capital system and numerical computation, and informatics of agricultural industry system. Main Equipment: computer hardware connected to a network system (LAN), and software in the form of computer operating system programs, computer language programs, and applications used to perform computational analysis and simulation of industrial systems.
- Laboratory of Bioindustry. Support tools / equipment and laboratory production system ready to be upgraded to pilot scale including PCR tools / equipment, fermenters, evaporators, spray dryers, freeze dryers, and various analytical tools.
- Laboratory of Industrial Record and Control of Side Products. Formal Coverage: development of engineering science in layout and material handling, process design and agro-industry process control system (new product, development and packaging), agro-industry machine tools, work design, side product control, and agro-industry environment. Material Coverage: competence in construction, evaluation and assessment areas. Supporting equipment: vacuum pump, BOD incubator, UPL model, flotation machine, triple blem balance scales, blender, mlinjo chip spinner, rice cooker, meat-breaking machine, coconut shredder machine, stainless steel vessel, fluid study vessel, and tools other complementary.
