Description

The Doctoral program of Food Science in its academic activities has accommodated the policy of Gadjah Mada University in supporting the five main pillars, namely linkage to real problems in the society, linkage with other disciplines, international perspective, leadership building, and utilization of information and communication technology. Therefore, the doctoral program of food science is committed to preparing high-quality human resources with doctoral qualification who have high competence in food science and are recognized at the national and international level an ready to partake in education, research, and industry.

Student Outcomes

a) Work Competence

Able to design a process of adding value to agricultural products based on the principles of food science by integrating various operating units to produce safe, high quality food and non-food products, with due regard to environmental sustainability.

b) Knowledge

Master knowledge about the principles of food/agricultural products science (chemistry and food/agricultural products analysis, food microbiology and safety, food /agricultural products processing engineering, food biochemistry and nutrition) to be formulated in product development techniques, process design, and factory design in an integrated manner.

c) Managerial Competence

Able to have oral and written communication about technical and non-technical aspects, think critically and be responsible for work independently, work in teams, interact with people from different backgrounds, be skilled in organizing and leading in various situations, utilize information resources, and have a commitment to professionalism and ethical values.

 

Career Prospective

Graduates of the Doctoral Program of Food Science generally seek employment in food industry, government, universities or institutions. Until 2018, 61% of alumni work in the food industry; 30% work in the government and education sectors; and the remaining 9% are entrepreneurs.
