Doctoral Program (DP)

Agricultural Engineering (AE)

Description

The program aims to prepare its graduates with a deeper knowledge in engineering and biosystem competencies to fulfill stakeholders' needs. The students who have completed the program should be able to discover, create, contribute to the development of science and technology through scientific research and develop into a professional in the field of agricultural engineering. Doctoral Program of Agricultural Engineering consist of four concentrations of study : (1) Land and Water Resources Engineering (LWRE); (2) Biosystem and Information Engineering (BIE); (3) Post Harvest and Food Engineering (PHHE); (4) Agro Industrial Sciences (AIS).

Aims

The primary aim of the Agricultural Engineering Study Program is to educate the students to be able to do individual research and to create innovation and technology to become the future professional scientist in the field of agriculture focusing on the appropriate engineering and management aspects.

Study Program Excellences

The Agricultural Engineering Department at UGM was the first department in the world to grant a degree in Agricultural Engineering. That was way back in 1963. And we haven't stopped breaking new ground since. We're now the largest Agricultural/Biosystems/Biological Engineering department in the country, all without losing our attention to student success.

Student Outcomes

Upon completion of the B.Eng. in Agricultural Engineering (AE), students will have:

  1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  3. an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
  7. an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies
  8. an ability to understand the interface between biology and engineering
  9. an ability to apply systems concepts and develop models
